Arkadi Monastery is located near the village of Amnatos and is only 23 km east of Rethymno. Built on the edge of a high plateau in an altitude of 500m the monastery of Arkadi is full of olive groves, vineyards and oak trees. Also, around the monastery there are many charming chapels and of course the Arkadi gorge. Although the monastery of Arkadi was built in 1587 it has been well known from the events that took place in November 1866 when Crete rebelled against the Turks.
